I like Wordpress much better than blogger, but my husband isn't convinced.
It's much more customizable, even the free accounts.
I don't have any experience with Wordpress so I can't really comment on that, but I will say that I think getting your own domain is a fantastic idea. It's almost worth it just to have a place to upload things to, plus you never know when you might find a professional use for it.
I've heard Wordpress is better, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE my blogger <3
